CVE-2026-53291

Kernel crash via unchecked jack callback error

Published Jun 26, 2026 · Updated Jun 26, 2026

Denial of service in the Linux kernel's ALSA Conexant driver allows local users to crash the kernel during jack event handling. In cx_probe(), the driver ignores an error pointer returned when snd_hda_jack_detect_enable_callback() fails, then continues probing without a registered callback. Reachability requires an affected Conexant codec and callback-registration failure, such as allocation failure; the documented consequence is a kernel crash.
