Kexec crash via missing purgatory stack word
Published Jun 26, 2026 · Updated Jun 26, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in affected Linux Kernel releases allows local users to crash the system during a non-kjump kexec operation. The non-kjump path in arch/x86/kernel/relocate_kernel_64.S omits the stack word that kexec-tools purgatory reads as a kjump return address. Local permission to invoke kexec is required, and the fault interrupts system availability without reported data disclosure or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
