CVE-2026-53244Network attack vector

NFSD service hang via unreleased parent lock

Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026

Denial of service in Linux Kernel 7.0 through 7.0.12 allows remote attackers to hang NFSD directory operations via NFSv4 OPEN requests. The dentry_create() error path replaces path->dentry with an error pointer after atomic_create() fails, so nfsd4_create_file() passes that pointer to end_creating() and leaves the parent directory lock held. Reachability requires a writable NFS export backed by a filesystem that implements atomic_create(); the retained lock can block later directory operations and consume NFSD threads.
