CVE-2026-53179

Memory disclosure or crash via stale IE length

Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in the rtl8723bs driver in Linux Kernel allows local users to disclose kernel memory or crash the system during network updates. In rtw_mlme.c, callers offset the ies pointer past the fixed information-element header but pass the original ie_length to rtw_update_protection(), so parsing continues beyond the remaining buffer. The rtl8723bs driver must be present and exercised locally; the bounded effects are kernel-memory disclosure and a system crash.
