Local task termination via hugetlb reservation leak
Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026
Resource reservation leak in the Linux Kernel hugetlb subsystem allows local users to terminate a task with SIGBUS under pool pressure. Two mm/hugetlb.c error paths release a failed copied folio but leave its per-VMA reservation-map entry marked as consumed. Reachability requires a private hugetlb VMA and failed UFFDIO_COPY resubmission, or a rarer fork path involving a pinned anonymous hugetlb folio and hwpoisoned source.
