Host service interruption via unaccounted skb metadata
Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel vsock/virtio receive path allows guest OS users to exhaust host kernel memory via crafted packets. virtio_transport_inc_rx_pkt() accounts only payload length while virtio_transport_recv_enqueue() retains zero-length EOM packets as separate skbs, so metadata accumulates while rx_bytes remains zero. A malicious KVM guest or local vsock peer that can reach a host endpoint can drive out-of-memory handling and host-wide service loss; confidentiality and integrity are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
