Write hang via discarded remapped bio
Published Jun 24, 2026 · Updated Jun 24, 2026
Denial of service in Linux Kernel dm-cache allows local users to hang writes by triggering a passthrough-mode write hit. The invalidate_remove() path remaps overwrite_bio after invalidation but discards it without submission instead of sending it to the origin. The flaw requires a dm-cache target in non-default passthrough mode and a write hit after cache invalidation; affected writes remain hung.
