Local service interruption via SMQ invalidation race
Published Jun 24, 2026 · Updated Jun 24, 2026
Improper locking in the Linux Kernel allows local users to corrupt data or destabilize the system through concurrent dm-cache writes. The smq_invalidate_mapping path omits locking while multiple workers remove mappings, racing the allocated-block counter and freeing internal structures during use. The path requires an existing dm-cache mapping that uses the SMQ policy in passthrough mode and concurrent writes to clean cached blocks.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
