CVE-2026-53039

Kernel crash via unvalidated OCFS2 group block

Published Jun 24, 2026 · Updated Jun 24, 2026

Reachable assertion in Linux Kernel OCFS2 allows local users to crash the kernel through a crafted OCFS2_IOC_GROUP_ADD ioctl. The ocfs2_group_add() path passes a user-controlled group block to ocfs2_set_new_buffer_uptodate() before ocfs2_verify_group_and_input() validates it, allowing a metadata-cache assertion to fire. A local user with low privileges and access to the group-add ioctl can cause a kernel panic and system-wide service interruption; no data disclosure or modification is reported.
