CVE-2026-52967Network attack vector

Memory disclosure and hang via symlink pointer wraparound

Published Jun 24, 2026 · Updated Jun 24, 2026

Out-of-bounds read and infinite loop in the Linux kernel SMB client allow remote attackers to disclose memory or hang 32-bit systems. The symlink_data() parser adds an untrusted ErrorDataLength to ErrorContextData without rejecting pointer wraparound, so iteration can repeat the same record or move eight bytes before it. Exploitation requires user interaction with attacker-controlled SMB symlink error data on a 32-bit system; the bounded consequences are kernel-memory disclosure and a system hang.
