Service interruption via oversized USB MIDI descriptor
Published Jun 24, 2026 · Updated Jun 24, 2026
Out-of-bounds reads in Linux Kernel ALSA USB audio allow local users to cause a service interrupt via a crafted MIDI endpoint descriptor. The snd_usbmidi_get_ms_info() descriptor walker trusts bLength even when it exceeds the remaining endpoint-extra bytes, so later flexible-array reads cross the scan boundary. Exploitation requires local access and a crafted USB MIDI endpoint; it can interrupt the affected host but does not grant data access or modification.
