CVE-2026-52956Network attack vector

Service interruption via undersized Ceph authentication reply

Published Jun 24, 2026 · Updated Jun 24, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in Linux Kernel before 7.0.10 allows remote attackers to interrupt Ceph clients via a crafted authentication reply. The __ceph_x_decrypt() function casts decrypted plaintext as a ceph_x_encrypt_header and reads hdr->magic without requiring enough bytes for that structure. A client must process an undersized FRAME_TAG_AUTH_REPLY_MORE ciphertext from a Ceph peer; the failure mode is unspecified beyond loss of availability.
