CVE-2026-52937

Kernel stack disclosure via uninitialized tap_ioctl buffer

Published Jun 24, 2026 · Updated Jun 24, 2026

Information disclosure in the Linux Kernel allows local users to read kernel stack data through SIOCGIFHWADDR on a macvtap device. In tap_ioctl(), a 16-byte sockaddr_storage is copied through ifr_hwaddr after netif_get_mac_address() initializes only the family and six address bytes, leaving eight stack bytes exposed. Access to a macvtap character device is required; the disclosed bytes can contain kernel text and direct-map pointers that defeat KASLR.
