CVE-2026-52916

Kernel crash via recursively nested mesh fragments

Published Jun 24, 2026 · Updated Jun 24, 2026

Denial of service in the batman-adv fragment handler in Linux Kernel allows local users to crash the kernel with nested fragments. After batadv_recv_frag_packet() reassembles a BATADV_UNICAST_FRAG payload, batadv_batman_skb_recv() processes an inner fragment as a new packet and recurses without a nesting limit. Reachability requires an active batman-adv mesh interface and local access to its Layer 2 traffic; stack exhaustion crashes the kernel without reported data disclosure or modification.
