Team scope expansion via unchecked object assignment
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
Improper authorization in Kimai before 2.58.0 allows remote authenticated users with Teamlead access to expand team scope via API calls. The team member and activity POST handlers check only whether the caller may edit the team, then save referenced objects without access_user or view authorization. Exploitation requires an authenticated Teamlead who can edit at least one team, and the saved relations can widen visibility and affect reporting and workflow authorization.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
