Authenticated code execution via unchecked CGI list copy
Published Mar 31, 2026 · Updated Mar 31, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in D-Link NAS and NVR firmware through 20260205 allows remote authenticated users to crash affected appliances. cgi_adduser_to_session in /cgi-bin/account_mgr.cgi copies attacker-controlled read_list, write_list, and decline_list data into stack locals without bounds checks, overwriting the return address. A valid administrative session is required; the demonstrated request causes a persistent service interruption, while return-address control supports arbitrary code execution.
