Authenticated file write via XML import traversal
Published Mar 31, 2026 · Updated Mar 31, 2026
Path traversal in CMS Made Simple 2.2.0 through 2.2.22 allows remote authenticated users to write files outside the import directory. The _copyFilesToFolder function uses attacker-controlled filename and directory values from imported UserGuide XML without restricting the resolved destination to the intended folder. Administrative access to the UserGuide XML Import action is required; crafted entries can escape the destination and overwrite server files.
