Author-to-Editor escalation via insufficient role validation
Published May 14, 2026 · Updated May 14, 2026
Privilege escalation in Essential Addons for Elementor 6.5.13 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to create Editor accounts. The register_user function rejects only the Administrator role and accepts attacker-controlled role values for newly created users. Author-level access is required; the resulting account gains Editor privileges rather than Administrator access, permitting broader content management without full site administration.
