MongoDB Server 7.0 before 7.0.31, 8.0 before 8.0.18, and 8.2 before 8.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to crash a mongod primary. Replica-set-to-sharded-cluster promotion reaches a process-terminating assertion during a brief transition window; MongoDB has not disclosed the exact code locus. Exploitation requires cluster access, limited privilege actions, and timing within that unpredictable window, resulting in interruption when the replica-set primary exits.
