CVE-2026-5165

Guest memory corruption via premature request completion

Published Mar 30, 2026 · Updated Mar 30, 2026

Use-after-free in the virtio-win VirtIO Block driver in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 and 10 allows local users to corrupt Windows guest memory. The reset path completes pending storage requests while device-owned buffers remain live, so a later completion dereferences memory that Windows has freed and reused. High privileges inside the Windows guest are required, and the reported consequence is guest instability or unexpected behavior.
