Process crash via unchecked ForwardOpen parsing
Published Jul 13, 2026 · Updated Jul 13, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in OpENer 2.3.0 allows remote attackers to crash the EtherNet/IP process via malformed ForwardOpen requests. ForwardOpenRoutine parses request fields before completing minimum-length validation, while GetByteFromMessage reads buffer[0] and advances without checking the remaining readable length. Network access to the listening service and session registration are sufficient; the public reproduction demonstrates a process abort, not extraction of adjacent memory.
