Unauthenticated source creation via loopback trust
Published Jun 15, 2026 · Updated Jun 15, 2026
Authentication bypass in selfoss 2.20 allows remote attackers to create sources and trigger server-side URL fetches through a proxy. AuthenticationFactory::create() selects Trust when isLocalIp() sees a loopback REMOTE_ADDR without forwarded-address headers, granting privileged checks to the request. Exposure requires a same-host reverse proxy that presents external traffic as loopback and omits X-Forwarded-For and Forwarded headers; the demonstrated consequences are unauthorized source creation and SSRF.
