Sandbox escape via agent-controlled working directory
Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026
Path traversal in Anysphere Cursor before 3.0 allows remote attackers to escape the terminal sandbox and execute code. The agent can replace working_directory with a sensitive path, causing the sandbox to grant write access outside the workspace and permitting replacement of the cursorsandbox helper. The path is reachable without further user interaction after a benign prompt, and resulting commands run with the local user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
