Local privilege escalation via AFD use-after-free race
Published Sep 8, 2026 · Updated Sep 9, 2026
A race condition in Microsoft Windows AFD.sys allows local users to elevate privileges through concurrent access to a freed kernel object. The driver fails to synchronize concurrent access to a shared resource, permitting use of an object after it has been freed. Exploitation requires local low-privilege access and winning a high-complexity timing race; success grants elevated control over the affected host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
