Stored XSS via verbatim HTML body rendering
Published Jul 6, 2026 · Updated Jul 6, 2026
Stored cross-site scripting in Hugo before 0.162.0 allows remote attackers to execute script in visitors' browsers through untrusted HTML content. The content pipeline classifies HTML files and content-adapter output as text/html, then emits each body verbatim into the generated page without rejecting or neutralizing script-capable markup. Exploitation requires a site to ingest attacker-controlled HTML and a visitor to open the generated page; trusted-only content and non-HTML markup are unaffected.
