CVE-2026-50003Network attack vector

Arbitrary file write via unsanitized SOP UID

Published Jun 30, 2026 · Updated Jun 30, 2026

Path traversal in OFFIS DCMTK 3.7.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to write files outside the selected C-GET output directory. In DcmSCU::handleCGETSession, bit-preserving storage combines the peer-supplied AffectedSOPInstanceUID with the storage directory without sanitizing path separators or traversal sequences. The client must initiate C-GET retrieval from a malicious or compromised DICOM server while bit-preserving storage mode is enabled, after which files can be written wherever the client process has permission.
