Non-admin account takeover via CSV import
Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Improper authorization in CSV user import in Snipe-IT before 8.6.1 allows remote authenticated users to take over non-admin accounts. In app/Importer/UserImporter.php, the canEditAuthFields gate unsets email and other auth fields on the model, but app/Importer/ItemImporter.php sanitizeItemForUpdating() rebuilds the update array from the raw CSV row and restores attacker-supplied values. Reachability requires an authenticated account with import permission and a non-admin, non-superuser target; the result is control of the victim account rather than administrator access by itself.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
