Local privilege escalation via NFC bounds check
Published Sep 8, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Google Android 14 through 17 allows local users to escalate privileges through a crafted NFC read response. The rw_mfc_handle_read_op function in rw_mfc.cc applies an incorrect bounds check while copying MIFARE Classic read data into the NDEF buffer, permitting a write past its boundary. No additional execution privileges or user interaction are required; Google's bulletin separately classifies the issue as remote code execution.
