CVE-2026-49845Network attack vector

Partition metadata manipulation via concatenated partition names

Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 26, 2026

SQL injection in Apache Hive 4.0.0 through 4.2.0 allows remote authenticated users to alter unintended partition metadata via RPC requests. DirectSqlUpdatePart.quoteString embeds client-supplied partition names into direct-SQL WHERE clauses through concatenation instead of bind parameters. The path requires access to partition-name Metastore APIs and direct SQL, enabled by default, and is limited to misdirected operations on partitions in a referenced table.
