Service interruption via unbounded metric label cardinality
Published Jul 17, 2026 · Updated Jul 17, 2026
Resource exhaustion in Sigstore Timestamp Authority before 2.1.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt the service via crafted HTTP requests. The global wrapMetrics middleware records each raw request path and method as Prometheus labels before routing, permanently allocating a new time series for every distinct combination. No authentication or valid route is required; sustained requests with randomized paths or methods exhaust server memory and cause an out-of-memory service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
