CVE-2026-4936

Protected-data decryption via reduced-entropy key seeds

Published Aug 19, 2026 · Updated Aug 20, 2026

Insufficient entropy in IBM PowerVM Hypervisor allows attackers with HMC or service-processor access to decrypt protected platform data. Persistent Platform KeyStore and virtual TPM storage seeds generate an AES key with reduced strength, enabling derivation of the encryption key. Exploitation requires privileged management access and exposes encrypted partition configuration, Platform KeyStore, and virtual TPM data without reported integrity or availability impact.
