Service interruption via orphaned slice-header retention
Published Jun 19, 2026 · Updated Jun 19, 2026
Resource exhaustion in Struktur AG libde265 before 1.0.20 allows remote attackers to interrupt decoding via crafted H.265 NAL units. In decoder_context::read_slice_NAL, a finished picture remains referenced after its image unit is drained, so later non-first slice headers are appended and retained without an active image unit. Exploitation requires user interaction and sustained delivery of malformed slices; heap usage grows linearly until the decoding process becomes unavailable.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
