LDAP injection in Apache Shiro through 2.2.0 and 3.0.0-alpha-1 allows remote attackers to bypass authentication via crafted usernames. DefaultLdapRealm concatenates the supplied username into its LDAP distinguished-name template without escaping RFC 2253 special characters, allowing the username to alter the bind DN. Exposure requires an application configured with DefaultLdapRealm; successful manipulation authenticates as another directory identity rather than executing code.
