Unauthenticated service interruption via unbounded ZLIB inflation
Published Jul 27, 2026 · Updated Jul 27, 2026
Data amplification in Apache Thrift Ruby bindings before 0.24.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt services with crafted ZLIB frames. The parse_header_format method passes the compressed payload to Zlib::Inflate.inflate without limiting decompressed output, while the frame-size check constrains only compressed input. No authentication or user interaction is required when a Ruby client or server processes untrusted HeaderTransport traffic, and memory or CPU exhaustion can halt request handling.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
