Terminal output manipulation via unsanitized filenames
Published Jul 8, 2026 · Updated Jul 8, 2026
Control-sequence injection in Andy Lester ack 3.10.0 and earlier allows attackers to manipulate terminal output via crafted filenames. App::Ack::show_types, file_loop_lL, and file_loop_c emit raw filename bytes without applying _safe_filename. A crafted basename must enter one of those output modes; cursor movement and recoloring can then spoof displayed results or alter downstream text.
