Arbitrary file read via unsafe path joining
Published Jul 1, 2026 · Updated Jul 1, 2026
Path traversal in Gradio before 6.16.0 allows remote attackers to read server files through crafted FileExplorer selections. FileExplorer.preprocess joins attacker-controlled path segments to root_dir with os.path.join and only normalizes the result, allowing absolute or parent segments to escape the configured directory. Exploitation requires an app using FileExplorer; apps without authentication expose the vulnerable queue endpoint, and any out-of-root file readable by the server process can be disclosed.
