Privilege escalation via configuration override injection
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Improper input validation in Elastic Kibana affected releases allows remote authenticated users to elevate Elasticsearch privileges. The policy override accepts injected values without adequate validation in 8.0.0 through 8.19.15, 9.0.0 through 9.3.4, and 9.4.0 through 9.4.1, causing agents to receive overprivileged API keys. Exploitation requires Fleet to be enabled and fleet-all application privilege, and it grants unauthorized read and write access to sensitive security indices.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=8.0.0 <=8.19.15
- Affected versionversion=9.0.0 <=9.3.4
