Artifact code injection via path traversal
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
Path traversal in Northern.tech Mender Server 4.1.0, 4.0.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to modify server files. The artifact-creation API accepts ../ sequences without adequate sanitization, allowing paths to escape its intended directory and overwrite files in the service container. Exploitation requires permission to create artifacts and a victim using that feature; successful attacks can inject arbitrary code into artifacts created by other users of the same API.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
