CVE-2026-48984

Authentication material disclosure via uncleared freed heap

Published Jun 18, 2026 · Updated Jun 18, 2026

Information disclosure in mcdope pam_usb 0.9.1 and earlier allows local users to recover authentication material from freed heap memory. The xfree() helper in src/mem.c calls free() without first zeroing heap buffers, leaving one-time pad bytes and other sensitive data available until overwritten. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access plus a use-after-free condition or heap-inspection primitive, and the bounded impact is recovery of pad values or other authentication material.
