Privileged RCE via unsafe gallery archive extraction
Published Jun 25, 2026 · Updated Jun 25, 2026
Unrestricted file upload in JoomlaWorks K2 1.0 through 2.26 allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP through gallery archives. The article gallery path extracts every zip or tar member into a web-accessible directory but safely renames only recognized image files, leaving PHP files unchanged. Gallery-upload privileges are required; direct HTTP access runs the retained PHP file with the web server's permissions.
