Reset-link exposure via HTTP scheme downgrade

Published May 26, 2026 · Updated May 26, 2026

Mixed-content link generation in Joomla! CMS 3.9.0 through 5.4.5 and 6.0.0 through 6.1.0 exposes reset links to man-in-the-middle attackers. The reset features generate plain HTTP URLs for HTTPS connections whenever the Force SSL flag is not explicitly set. A man-in-the-middle position on the resulting HTTP request is required to read the one-time reset link; no direct content modification or service interruption is established.
