Authenticated daemon crash via malformed backup metadata
Published Aug 21, 2026 · Updated Aug 21, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Incus before 7.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to crash incusd through a crafted instance backup. createDependentVolumesFromBackup dereferences nil VolumeSnapshots entries and omitted Volume or Pool fields from dependent_volumes metadata. Any user with can_create_instances permission in a project can terminate the daemon, interrupting container, virtual-machine, and storage operations on that host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
