OAuth token theft via omitted PKCE verifier
Published Sep 15, 2026 · Updated Sep 15, 2026
Improper authorization in Open Identity Platform OpenAM 16.0.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to redeem intercepted PKCE authorization codes. AuthorizationCodeGrantTypeHandler checks a stored code_challenge only when code_verifier is supplied unless realm-wide codeVerifierEnforced is enabled. The default disables enforcement; public-client exploitation requires an intercepted code, while confidential clients also require client authentication material or another redemption context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
