Authenticated command execution via unfiltered notification macros
Published Aug 12, 2026 · Updated Aug 12, 2026
Command injection in Nagios Core before 4.5.14 and Nagios XI before 2026R1.7 allows remote authenticated users to execute code. The com_data parameter populates NOTIFICATIONCOMMENT or NOTIFICATIONAUTHOR without filtering shell metacharacters before notification command substitution. Exploitation requires a non-default shell-executed notification command that references either macro; successful commands run as the nagios user.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
