Local process crash via unbounded Markdown recursion
Published Mar 26, 2026 · Updated Mar 26, 2026
Uncontrolled recursion in Orc Discount 3.0.1.0 through 3.0.1.2 allows local users to crash the process via a crafted Markdown file. The compile function in markdown.c recursively processes deeply nested blockquotes without enforcing a nesting-depth limit, exhausting the process stack. A low-privileged local user must supply the file to a Discount command-line tool or an application using the library; the consequence is termination of that process only.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
