SYSTEM command execution via writable backup jobs
Published Mar 25, 2026 · Updated Mar 25, 2026
Improper privilege management in Iperius Backup 8.7.0 through 8.7.3 allows local users to execute commands as SYSTEM via backup jobs. The service loads .ibj files from C:\ProgramData\IperiusBackup\Jobs without sufficient authorization or integrity checks and executes configured external processes and schedules as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. Exploitation requires a low-privileged local user to retain write access to a job file; successful modification grants full command execution on the Windows host.
