Protected-file disclosure via writable job configurations
Published Mar 25, 2026 · Updated Mar 25, 2026
Improper permissions in Iperius Backup Service 8.7.0 through 8.7.3 allow local users to read protected files via crafted backup jobs. The service automatically loads writable .ibj files from C:\ProgramData\IperiusBackup\Jobs and executes their backup instructions as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM without validating file integrity or authorization. A low-privileged Windows account with access to that directory can redirect a service-run job to copy otherwise unreadable local data into an accessible destination.
