Global Administrator escalation via unchecked role assignment
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
Privilege escalation in Budibase before 3.39.0 allows remote authenticated users to gain global Administrator access via a role-assignment request. The /api/public/v1/roles/assign controller passes unfiltered builder and admin fields to the SDK after builderOrAdmin accepts an app-scoped builder. Exploitation requires a workspace-scoped builder API key and the Enterprise EXPANDED_PUBLIC_API feature; a successful request grants tenant-wide administrative control.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
