Service interruption via unchecked SYMDEF names offset
Published Jun 5, 2026 · Updated Jun 5, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in 7-Zip 9.34 through 26.00 allows attackers to interrupt the application by opening a crafted ar archive. In CHandler::ParseLibSymbols, the BSD __.SYMDEF path permits namesStart to equal the heap buffer size, then Get32 reads namesSize before the later bounds check. A user must open the archive; the four bytes affect only a rejected bounds check and are not exposed through output, bounding the documented consequence to process availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
