Message spoofing via unverified self-only protocol messages

Published Aug 3, 2026 · Updated Aug 3, 2026

Origin validation errors in WhiskeySockets Baileys before 6.7.22 and 7.0.0-rc.1 through 7.0.0-rc11 allow remote attackers to spoof messages. processMessage accepts self-only HISTORY_SYNC_NOTIFICATION and APP_STATE_SYNC_KEY_SHARE protocol messages whose message key is not marked fromMe, then dispatches them as trusted device state. Any party able to send a payload to an active session can inject a fake messages.upsert event or history context and corrupt synchronized app state.
